How To Work With An Art Advisor

Art Advising is a relatively new field in the Art Collecting arena and many people are often confused and wondering how it works and if they need or want to work with an Independent Art Advisor when purchasing fine art. Many Art Appraisers also work as Art Advisors it is a natural and likely channel for collectors as Art Appraisers are independent of a Gallery or Artist and really do work on behalf of their clients, and do not and should not have a stake in whether a client buys art or the level of value the art is.

I work on an hourly basis or project basis and prefer this business model so I can truly be impartial to the outcome, while advising, educating and sourcing the best quality art so that my clients are comfortable in their purchases. I work with clients on a limited budget as well as with clients on mostly unlimited budgets looking to source blue chip, investment quality art and everyone gets the exact same level of customer service, expert and experienced background with the utmost private, confidential and quality service.

I recently returned from a trip to Santa Fe, NM to help a client who wanted a pre-purchase estimate on some paintings they were considering buying and wanted to know their value was justified and the provenance was well established. That is what I do best. Santa Fe does not disappoint and truly lives up to its name of “A City Different.” The art galleries, history, and charm in this city are abundant, and I love helping my clients find the perfect art to add to their collections that will hold their values while enjoying these essential works of art in their collections.

Working as an Art Advisor is the fun part of my job, and I genuinely enjoy it. Hiring an independent Art Appraiser and Advisor to evaluate artworks before a purchase is one of the most thoughtful financial decisions a collector can make, whether you are a seasoned art collector or new to the exciting world of collecting art.

I work for my clients and do not have an inventory or stake in whether they buy art, and I truly work as an independent advisor to help my clients make a decision they are comfortable with. My favorite clients are long-term collectors that come back for advice, appraisals, and connections in the art world, and I love being the bridge in an often confusing and opaque market.

Sometimes the value of the art is not important to collectors. They love the piece, which is the best reason to buy art. Value matters, and it is essential to work with professionals who abide by a code of ethics within their professional organizations and who do not have a potential conflict of interest in recommending art purchases.

Hiring an Art Advisor is like hiring an independent home inspector when buying a home, and can save clients thousands of dollars, and a good advisor can find other art they did not even know about and love even more. I love helping to source art and being able to help my clients save time and money, and I know they appreciate that unbiased guidance. I welcome new client inquiries and am happy to do an initial phone, zoom, or in-person consultation to discuss the process and how I can best help.

If you are looking to buy a work of art or create a new art collection or just need some independent expertise, I would love to talk with you. I love helping my clients navigate and understand the very misunderstanding world and business of fine art. I specialize in working in the intersection of Fine Art and Finance.
