Successfully Brokered For Double The Estimate!

“I'm so glad for everything you've done! My experience rates several thumbs up!” R.W.

I love helping my clients solve seemingly complicated issues with an appraisal of their art, following up with the ultimate solution of where and how to sell their art once they know the value. The art world is a notoriously difficult-to-navigate business. The part of my business I enjoy the most is the follow-up, including advising and brokerage services for clients.

I learned many years ago that completing an appraisal for a client was not the end of the road. Most clients need impartial and expert help navigating the next steps in selling and buying art without being taken advantage of or losing money.

Selling art on the secondary market can be confusing, complex, and time-consuming. My goal is to be the guide, the advocate, and the GPS for my clients, from finding the best auction or dealer to negotiating terms for my clients that are favorable and fair.

I recently helped a client with a resale valuation of his painting, and based on the research, I came up with the best options to resell. I obtained auction estimates from several auction houses, all with different estimates and terms, and the winner was Bonhams auctions. The painting sold recently for almost double the resale valuation and auction estimates. My client was thrilled with the results, and the process was much more accessible and straightforward than he had anticipated.

I like to tell clients that once we start working together, the hard work on their part is over, and I will take care of the details. As appraisers, we do much more than appraise art. I often get calls from past clients looking for other resources, like shipping and art transport, storage solutions, fine art insurance, framing, conservation, and repairs. Of course, options for reselling their art include auction contacts, art dealers, online resources, and private collectors.

In 2011, I changed the name of my business from Shelley Hall Fine Art to Art Appraisal Resources, and the title sums up what I do. I have always enjoyed providing resources of information, solutions, and information about the art world. I rely on my network of auction houses, private dealers, and art galleries, and I am always adding new contacts and resources to benefit all of my clients.

Value matters. Working with professionals in the art industry can save clients thousands of dollars.
